The label Into The Light is dedicated to the work of Greek producers like Vangelis Katsoulis, Dimitris Petsetakis and George Theodorakis, but has recently expanded its radius not only geographically. After an album by the Osnabrück-based producer Cass., Bartosz Kruczyński and Poly Chain, a Polish-Ukrainian duo, present their first joint LP. Kruczyński is a hyperactive musician who covers a lot of stylistic ground alongside dreamy ambient house under the moniker of Earth Trax or with the now legendary Pejzaż project from The Very Polish Cut-Outs. Under his real name, however, Balearic, pardon, Baltic sounds are on the agenda, as his debut album »Baltic Beat« on Growing Bin also proclaimed. By contrast, Sasha Zakrevska, who comes from Kiev, oscillates between slick electro and gentle ambient. »Pulses« reveals a passion for Klaus Schulze and the Berlin School, but mainly covers lush surfaces. Between densely layered textures and billowing drones, circular sequences wind their way up repeatedly, sometimes right in the upper registers. What sounds light and airy at the beginning of the record, darkens increasingly, becoming more urgent and tangible. After »Xenolalia« closes the A-side with dark tones, »Fluxional« opens the flip side with sharp acid. Passing through the enigmatic »Velicious« to the New Age-inspired closer »Echolalia«, the tempo relaxes again towards the end, but the effect remains. »Pulses« is a carefully arranged emotional rollercoaster ride through the sound vocabulary of the 70s.
