It took some time for Soul Position´Blueprint to present his new musical oeuvre. Exactly five years. »Adventures in Counter Culture« totally lives up to its name. The listener can expect contradictory music and cranky lyrical outpours. A lot has happened since 2001, the year Blueprint started his career. The American discovered the worlds of synthesizers, keyboards and rock, which is audible on these tracks. After the Intro, Go Hard Or Go Home (Printnificence) seems very two-dimensional, an electronic atmosphere and a standard-drumloop figure as a base for Blueprint´s slow raps. The third track, Automatic, is comparably genuine, though a wee bit more electronic – unfortunately, Blueprint could not resist to use an auto-tune-effect in the chorus. Very different from the rest is Wanna Be Like You, which didn´t turn out to be very convincing with a continuous kick and Blueprint´s rather improper (though church choir-certified) vocals. Overall, the mix of electronic and hip hop music on Adventures In Counter-Culture is nevertheless worth listening to, especially because of the cynical and sociocritical lyrics, which Blueprint puts smoothly over the music. A different Blueprint.
