Nonharmonic Beautifault

Leyla • 2016

Techno is very versatile. It’s hard to now get rid off the stigma attached to it. In terms of these preconceptions, one has to put away the impression that Techno only works in the club environment. For me that’s not true at all. When I listen to »Nonharmonic Beautifault«, the new EP by Positive Centre, I see myself for example in an ›old fashioned‹ bar. A cognac in one hand, the hat on the dark brown chest of drawers, three cigarette packets in the trench coat pocket. A guy comes in, the daily paper in the back pocket: »So, now father needs a schnapps«. It is 10 o’clock in the morning. A night lasts until one goes to bed. So why not think of Techno in such a way? A whole series of artists just work on sounds with analogue-synthesisers, cassette recorders and effect-processors, which makes this imagination possible. Amongst them Helena Hauff, the label roster of Lobster Theremin and also Sigha. Positive Centre has a lot in common with Sigha. He has also successfully released on Sigha’s label Our Circula Sound »Nonharmonic Beautifault« is indeed the fourth release from the Dutch label Leyla It is, to take the metaphor further, like a cognac glass; bellied in the form, smooth on the surface, fragile in the material. I’ll take another one.
