The Mystic Jungle Tribe

Qvisisana

Early Sounds • 2016

Capri. It makes you think of a Godard-instructed Brigitte Bardot in a summer dress, pouting and looking over the endless sea. Bella Italia, extravagance, old sports cars and midday wine on the terrace. This is the place that Mystic Jungle Tribe drew inspiration from when creating their latest mini-album: »Qvisisana« is the name of a five-star-Hotel in Capri. Hence, the three Italians are returning from their space voyage (»Solaris« having been one of those countless space-escape-records) back to earth. And what do people do on earth? Exactly: Trying to find the place where the sunset is especially red, ordering an Aperol Spritz and then having their dress blow in the wind. So what could be more fitting than Balearic Disco? This is what Ibiza could sound like again if it was finally cleaned from shattered glass and vomit, and if labels like International Feel kept up their triumphant crusade. Shimmering synths in elegant loops, a warm pad here, a xylophone there. A chirping, while the bass is being plucked with actual fingers and played directly from the loins. Every now and then, a tiny breeze of acid trickles into a moonlight-drink. The groove is spot on. It’s music for dressing in white linen and popping to the bar – the butt tight from the morning beach walk, the shirt unbuttoned halfway down, a brief snap of the finger in time. It’s for placing an order at the bar that smells of after shave. And then going back to the dancefloor, gallantly, with a drink softly swaying in a cocktail glass.
