Just recently Kris Baha could impress with two albums at once. But instead of stagnating, a »Keep it up!« is propagated here. While he made the Krautheads happy as Die Orangen, together with Dreems, another Australian, his solo debut »Palais« was rather something for synth-pop maniacs. The influences of Depeche Mode, early EBM scene and cold wave classics can also be found on »Barley Alive«. But Kris Baha now lets others get their hands on the coals. Like Timothy J. Fairplay, who is known from labels like Emotional Response or Body Works and who gives the source material a certain swing. This sounds almost electro and is at the same time counteracted by the slightly modified vocals. The track seems strange, unround – and therefore remarkable. With Job Sifre on the other hand there is hardly anything left – except a feeling. Job Sifre proves that an edit is there to preserve the best possible version of a track, whereas the remix clearly says: I am to be taken seriously as an entity. His remix does that excellently. A completely different, cruder, wilder, punkier note comes to the table, which, although hard, also shows an incredible joy. A little bit of sun really is good for the whole Cold-Wave genre. Unfortunately Das Thing can’t keep up with that. The original becomes an ambivalent wave track here, which is characterized by fleetingness.
