Guest Mix: Vera Logdanidi

10.10.2024
Vera Logdanidi is committed to conscious music listening and fights for a collective culture of this art form. Her versatile sets are notorious in Ukraine and beyond. Here’s another one.

Vera Logdanidi has many irons in the fire: the Kyiv-based artist is not only a DJ and producer, but has also been a fervent activist and community builder since the beginning of her career. With aradio show like »Kashtan«, she has created a platform explicitly dedicated to promoting local artists. Since 2019, she has also been reporting on new local artists, labels and releases on her Telegram channel – a network that has become particularly important since the outbreak of the war.

Making hidden treasures visible fits perfectly with Vera Logdanidis’ philosophy of music. For her, consciously listening to music is the key to a deep understanding and a genuine appreciation of this art form. In an age in which algorithms constantly tax our attention, this thought seems like an almost lost rock in the surf.

Everything for the music – and the community

Socialising in the Kyiv party scene, the musician found her way to DJ-ing in the early 2000s – between genres such as drum’n’bass, house and techno. The local underground scene was the perfect breeding ground for her ideas of collective music culture. Through the 22:22 Studio, for example, she launched one of the most important drum’n’bass event series of the time. With the mysterious Natura Festival, she helped to establish one of the most notorious festivals for electronic music in Ukraine.

After releases on labels such as Semantica Records and On Board Music and collaborations with producers like Na Nich, she remains surprisingly modest about her own mixes. Whether closing, opening or playing at prime time, Vera Logdanini loves all settings and experiments in her sets, from ambient to jungle. In this way, music becomes a mouthpiece for her ideals.
