A thousand times we’ve touched, a thousand times nothing has happened. But something can still happen. Because the Staples Jr. Singers give it their all. They are the Bible Belt Band, which means they come from Mississippi and have been singing in church all their lives. About God, to God and for God. At least in church services. Some might point their fingers and say, aha, I know, just like in Sister Act, right? And actually they’re right. Gospel makes church cool. You don’t have to get down on your knees and say prayers all the time. You just sing and be happy.
Of course, such an idea must come from the USA. Maybe it has something to do with the origins of the blues, or the fact that you can sing about Jesus in English without sounding as creepy as the ponytail-wearing Bible-thumpers in the pedestrian zone. Besides, when it comes to special effects, the mainstream church hasn’t come up with anything better than Bible Birgit on an acoustic guitar. A brother and sister band like the Staples is just more fun. It took them almost 50 years to make their second album »Searching«. God’s mills may grind slowly, but grind they do!
