When Alfa Sekitoleko describes himself as too unjazzy for jazz and too uneasy for easy listening, you have to take him at his word. Because just as the Londoner, who now goes by the name Alfa Mist, cannot be pigeonholed, he also knows a great deal about music and its history. He started out as a beat-tinkerer and grime producer, back then it was always about the ‘head nod’. Then he learned to play the piano and let melody and harmony into his life.

Ten years and a YouTube hit (»Antiphon«) later, Alfa Mist is at the forefront of a generation of new jazz musicians who, in the tradition of the great innovators and revolutionaries, are stirring up everything – and creating albums of infinite beauty in the process. Alfa Mist is not someone who plays down the standards, but rather finds fascinating ways to combine jazz with hip-hop and complex drum settings. Without blinkers, but with a new record, ‘Recurring Live At Kings Place’ in his luggage, Alfa Mist will come to the Enjoy Jazz Festival on 10 October 2024 and play a concert at the Karlstorbahnhof in Heidelberg.
