Stuart Dempster – Underground Overlays From The Cistern Chapel

The pun doesn’t work in any other language but English. But the »cistern« in which Stuart Dempster, a companion of drone pioneer Pauline Oliveros, gathered some colleagues almost 30 years ago to shake the vaulted ceiling with trumpet sounds, takes on a sublime quality that would pass as a harmonic answer to the »Sistine Chapel«. To illustrate this, the album cover also features Michelangelo’s divine finger from the ceiling fresco in the Vatican Chapel. An exaggeration? Not with this music.
