There is music that sounds special, and there is music that sounds like nothing before. Hoya falls into the second category, of course, because what could a theremin player with a background in theatre and a drummer trained in transcultural abstraction work do that could be squeezed into any fixed frame of reference? Yup, nothing really. Fhunyue Gao and Sven Kacirek sometimes venture towards minimal music, feverish (free) jazz, humorous noise and dull dub, but first and foremost open up their very own musical space.
