Meshell Ndegeocello is returning to Berlin for two concerts, organized by JAW Family. On 6 and 7 November, she will be presenting her new work »No More Water: The Gospel of James Baldwin« at the Musikbrauerei, celebrating the 100th birthday of the American writer James Baldwin. She will be accompanied by surrealist blues poet aja monet and New York composer Samora Pinderhughes, both of whom share Baldwin’s revolutionary spirit.

Sociocritical sounds
aja Monet, celebrated as an outstanding poet in the New York Times, among other places, will perform excerpts from her Grammy-nominated album »When the Poems Do What They Do«. Pinderhughes, known for his profound lyrics and socially critical works, will present his new album »Venus Smiles Not In The House Of Tears« on the second evening. Jake & Abe will open both evenings and bring a completely new sound to the stage with their debut album. Ndegeocello, who in the 1990s became the voice of the burgeoning lesbian movement in the USA and shaped a new era of neo-soul with her music, is showing a different side of herself: she is revealing her deep connection to Baldwin’s legacy and mixing it with her own artistic developments – a mixture not to be missed.
