This step must have been just as intimidating as challenging for Chris Clark: Away from the completely electronic. Away from the brute. Away from chaos. Towards the acoustic, the cautious and finally towards orderly songwriting. »Iradelphic« shows the Warp-Favourite on his acoustic guitar and on two tracks even on the microphone. The beats remain restrained. A lot of melodies scatter through space. And for vocal refinement, the englishman got the uncrowned queen of TripHop, Martina Topley-Bird. Following the musical history of Clark, this sixth album is a milestone. He dares the absolute break and tries out the professional structures of classical composing and songwriting, the thought-through development of melodies. Singled out, »Iradelphic« is a collection of small sketches never quite thought to the end. Nine out of the twelve tracks are under four minutes. On all tracks, Clark circles around one basic theme, which could do with some refinement and development, which it doesn´t get in the end. »Iradelphic« has an aura of the unfinished. As if Clark had had an idea of songwriting, but had not stepped beyond a certain point. And this point is where usually a fire is sparked.
